In 1998 two childhood friends teamed up to produce the first vibrating teething ring. According to inventor Livio Scagliotti Jr. and his business partner Mario A Gonzalez, a quadriplegic, founder of the new company Baby Vibe, the unconventional therapeutic device that really works. What's more the two received F.D.A clearance of the JeJe teething ring in November 2004. For Scagliotti, necessity was indeed the mother of invention. In the mid 1990's desperate to relieve his infant son's teething pain, Scagliotti set his pager to vibrate, turned it on, and gave it to his son to gum on. It worked like a charm, but Scagliotti thought nothing of it until he encountered a woman in his local Home Depot store on the verge of tears while her teething baby cried inconsolably. Scaliotti suggested the pager trick and the mother agreed to try, once again the pager brought her babies cries to an immediate stop. Scagliotti realized that he had stumbled on to something big. So he rigged up a prototype - an 8 inch plastic ring with a motor in the center and proudly presented it to his friend Mario. It was ugly Gonzalez chuckles now, "but the idea was there" as luck would have it. Gonzalez who recently had twins, and they were teething at the time, gave the device to them, and both babies seemed content for the first time in days. Knowing a good thing when he saw it, Gonzalez put it all on the line, selling his home and moving in with his in laws, to provide the finances necessary to have the JeJe teething ring professionally designed, and to get a mold made. The end result is a round device with three spokes, and a center hub housing the motor. When turned on the motor creates vibrations that travel from the center of the teething ring through the spokes to the outer ring. Made of soft rubber, the outer ring is a safe, soothing surface for babies to bite on, when activated, it stays on for seven minutes and automatically turns off until activated again. Its design makes it easy for babies to hold, and you can easily replace the battery witch you cannot do with our competitor's product.
